It is quite cold across much of the US today and it is only expected to get colder as the cold arctic airmass moves south from Canada into the U.S. Here is what it looks like in parts of the U.S.:
In Glasgow, MT there is an expected high of 0°F today. Current (11:30am EST) wind chill values are around -28°F. Lows tonight may get down to -30°F. With wind chill values that low exposed skin can freeze in less than 30 minutes.
There is a wind chill warning for much of North Dakota for tonight into Thursday. A wind chill warning means wind chill values of below -25°F are to be expected. Parts of North Dakota may see wind chill values as low as -50°F tonight. If possible stay indoors as frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes on exposed skin in those conditions!
There is a blizzard warning for parts of South Dakota as heavy snow and white out conditions are expected today into the evening hours. Approximately 2-4 inches of snow is expected.
Many locations in the Southeast U.S. are seeing high temperatures 15-20 degrees below normal for this time of year.
These cold temperatures are due to the deep low pressure trough covering much of the Eastern U.S. This low pressure trough has remained fairly stationary due to the blocking pattern currently present over this portion of the U.S.
The forecast is for this area of low pressure to move south and east and possibly bring some unseasonably cold temperatures to parts of Mexico!
I love your morning TWITTER posts and share them with my aging boarders! They perk us up along with the coffee!
Thank you. Glad to hear someone reads them and enjoys them. Looks like warmer weather on the horizon for some locations.
